How To Add Fractions With Unlike Denominator
How to add fractions with unlike denominator
How to add fractions with unlike denominators:
I am gonna give a example, a example to know how to add fractions with unlike denominators.
Example:
2/7 + 1/3 =
Step Number 1: Find the least common denominator (LCD) of the fractions.
If did not know what LCD means, here is the meaning:
LCD, also called as least common denominator, like the least common multiple, is two or more numbers is the smallest numbers that can be divided exactly by the given number.
*BACK TO ANSWERING*
The LCD of 7 and 3 is 21.
Step 2: Use the LCD to find fractions that are equivalent to the given fractions
Use the LCD to form equivalent fractions.
Formula: fraction x other fraction denominator
2/7 x 3 = 6/21 1/3 x 7 = 7/21
Step 3: Apply the steps in adding similar fractions
6/21 + 7/21 = n -- means number
Solve 6/21 + 7/21
Rule: these are already similar fractions. its easy to add up but do not add the denominators.
*back to answering*
6 + 7 = 13
then only copy the denominator of the question of similar fractions
so, the answer is:
n = 13/21
Answer: Therefore, the sum of 2/7 and 1/3 is 13/21.
hope it helps :)
